Wicked Poster Drama Cynthia Erivo Is Not Happy With Fan Art!

A controversy is going on about wicked poster as the poster has came, people are comparing it to old wicked poster. But what happened here we will tell you about the whole story in our article.

A lead actor Cynthia Erivo who plays Elphaba in the new Wicked movie becomes so disappointed by a remake of the current poster by a fan who edited their poster with the old one that is going viral on the internet.

In that response “This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen,” Cynthia Erivo worte on her Instagram stories Oct.16 also attached the fan edited and the real poster there which show the charcters Elphaba and Glinda.

The original poster of the movie as shared by Universal on the 9 October 2024 the poster details are like Erivo is looking straight full visible eyes and the color of her lips are green. But if we talk about the fan’s art creation Erivo’s Instagram story her face was not fully shown her eyes were hidden with dark shadow and with her hat and the color of her lips are bright red and looking like she was slightly smiling.

And on the other hand Ariana Grande face was covered with her hand.

Erivo feels so disappointed after seeing this fan art she also says that that version “degrades” her she wrotes “I am a real-life human being, who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer. . . because, without words we communicate with our eyes.”

The Fan was just remaking that broadway poster but it doesn’t make the Erivo happy she said that their poster was not the imitation of the original poster but it was inspired by that poster.

“Our poster is a homage, not an imitation,” Erivo continued in her message. “To edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me. And that is just deeply hurtful.”

After Erivo posted fan art image she also posted the real image of the movie’s artwork which she wrote “Let me put this right here, to remind you and cleanse your palette.” The director of the film Jon M. Chu also shared her story on his instagram to support her.

Most of her fans supported her on the internet considered it a discriminating and erasing of her.

For everyone saying they’re not understanding why Cynthia is upset about the edited poster please take into account that her features in the edit were made to look bigger and made her into a caricature that we have seen over and over again in black women.

Re: the Wicked poster controversy: the optics of editing a Black, queer woman’s face aren’t great. All they’ve done to Ariana is move her hand, while they’ve hidden Cynthia’s eyes and changed her mouth.

Some are saying that the fan was not disrespecting or erasing he was just matching the poster to the original poster.

“Girl, they was not erasing you… people just wanted the new poster to match the same energy as the Original Wicked poster… you know, one with her eyes covered and she’s smirking…” a person said on X.

Another user “Oh good grief. Tell me you’ve never seen Wicked The Broadway Musical poster without telling me.”
